JONATHAN B.PERLIN , MD,PhD, is new chairman 2015 of the American hospital association .

A visionary has been selected to chair the American Hospital association for 2015. A former under secretary for health in the veteran health administration in president Bush senior administration . His vision for the American hospital administration is ; an effective and efficient health care system that predicts risks , prevents complications and maintains and restores people to their highest level of function ......".A system that when necessary , intervenes safely , efficiently and compassionately .
His mission ; to make his vision wide spread .
He studied history and philosophy at university of Virginia as undergraduate and at Cambridge university England he studied history and philosophy of science .
He later joined the physician scientists training program at the medical college of Virginia for his combined MD/PhD.
He did his residency at the same institution he got his MD , after which he got a master,s in health administration .
He began his career as medical director , medical college of Virginia hospitals from 1997 to 1999.
He was chief quality and performance officer at the veterans health administration [VHA] , then deputy under secretary for health and acting chief research and development officer . He championed electronic health records [EHR] and led VHA quality to international and national recognition .
In 2004 He was nominated by President George W Bush and confirmed by the US senate as under secretary for health in the US department of veterans health affairs , the most senior physician in the federal government and VHA chief executive officer .
Dr Perlin , is currently the president of clinical services and chief medical officer at HCA[Hospital corporation of America ].
He has served on the boards of the national quality forum and at the national patient safety foundation , and is a current member of the Meharry medical college board and the new chair of the the US department of veterans affairs special medical advisory group .
He has broadly published on health care quality and transformation .
He is a fellow of both American colleges of physicians and American college of medical informatics .
Has recived many medals and honors among which are ; distinguished alumnus in medicine and health administration from his alma mater, chairman medal from national patient safety foundation and the founder medal from the association of military surgeons of the united states .
He is married to Donna a pediatric emergency physician and has two children Ben and Sarah .
He and his family resides in Nashville and is also an enthusiastic guitarist.
