Houston police chief , joins city to honor Sgt Steve Perez .

The police chief of the city of Houston , Art Acevedo joined governor Abbot of Texas , the deputy governor , Hon Sylvester Turner mayor of Houston,and other dignitaries in and around the city of Houston to honor and celebrate the life of Sgt Steve Perez who died by drowning while at work during the hurricane Harvey rescue and recovery efforts .
In a memorial service or mass at the Co-cathedral of the Sacred heart ,down town Houston presided by the cardinal of greater Houston and Galverston , among a college of bishops , the contributions of late Sgt Steve Perez to his family , city , police corps and the church were listed .
He had contemplated joining the priesthood before he embarked on service in the USA army and police corps .
He was decorated with many honors post humorously , including a three gun shot salute after a group of helicopters flew past over the crowd gathered outside the cathedral .
He left behind two children , a wife , mother and many other relatives and inlaws .
He will be remembered for selfless service to his family , community and nation.
