March 4th will be the first unified World Obesity Day and will serve to recognize obesity as a multi-factorial and chronic disease. This
global awareness campaign is the collective effort of multiple organizations in the obesity community.
“The Obesity Society is proud to have played a key role in the establishment of March 4th as
World Obesity Day along with several other peer organizations in the obesity community. The establishment of a unified World Obesity Day is an important advancement in helping to increase public and governmental awareness of this serious, yet often misunderstood,
chronic disease. The Obesity Society is fully engaged in leading the efforts to advance our scientific understanding of the causes, treatment and prevention of obesity, and we are committed to efforts to help end the stigma and bias that persons living
with obesity face on a daily basis, and I feel strongly that the establishment of World Obesity Day will help advance these goals,” said TOS President Lee M. Kaplan, MD, PhD, FTOS.
Join us and organizations around
the world in the inaugural observance of World Obesity Day on March 4, 2020, as we push for more comprehensive solutions, treatment, and collective responsibility for addressing this global epidemic. Together, we can address the far reaching personal, societal,
and economic impacts of obesity. See how you can be a force for change at www.worldobesityday.org.
