I’m [NAME], a constituent of [INSERT MEMBER OF CONGRESS NAME]. I work in global health at [INSERT INSTITUTION] and I am concerned about the US’ response to the COVID-19 outbreak as well as President Trump’s proposed FY 2021 budget cuts for agencies involved in global health.
I applaud Congress for passing the ‘Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020,’ however,
President Trump’s proposed FY 2021 budget will harm those agencies directly involved in addressing this pandemic. Currently, he has proposed the following cuts:
  • 10.81% cut to the FY 2020 enacted CDC funding levels
  • 9.55% cut to the FY 2020 enacted NIH funding levels
  • 7.71% cut the FY 2020 enacted NIH Fogarty International Center funding levels
  • 9% cut to the FY 2020 enacted HHS funding levels
  • 26% cut to the FY 2020 enacted EPA funding levels
It is not enough to pass an emergency spending bill during times of crisis. The country must have effective and properly funded agencies that can prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic. Will [INSERT MEMBER OF CONGRESS NAMEreject President Trump’s cuts to these important global health agencies?
